Registration
What is the difference between NRLL (North Regina Little League)
and RNLL (Regina National Little League)?
View zone map...
If you live south of these boundaries you must register with the Kiwanis
National Little League. The KNLL program is equivalent to NRLL as it is run
under the same rules and guidelines within Saskatchewan Little League (SLL).
Can my child be on the same team as friends, neighbors,
classmates, etc, for transportation purposes?
We make every effort to accommodate special requests, however,
this is not always possible. In the older divisions the children are
drafted by coaches based upon their evaluation scores. Where special
requests are indicated, the coaches attempt to accommodate the same when
possible.
My child turns 5 shortly after the age cut off (April 30th), can
he/she still play Junior Rookie?
Yes, however, our primary concern is for your child's safety.
Your child should be mature enough to be attentive to the game and their
surroundings.
I am having trouble registering online.
Please obtain the paper version of the registration form online
or contact the Registrar directly by telephone
to register.
I registered my child, but I did not receive an e-mail
confirmation.
A correctly spelled e-mail address should ensure an electronic
confirmation of your registration from our system, however, you may confirm by
contacting the Registrar directly if after a
few days you do not receive e-mail confirmation.
I made a mistake on my registration, can I update my
registration?
Yes. If you forgot to include an important piece of
information, please contact the Registrar and
we will update your registration.
I registered. So what's next?
You will NOT be contacted until closer to the beginning of the
baseball season at which time you will be notified of Evaluations, Uniform
Pickup, first Team Practice, etc. Stay tuned to the NRLL Web site for
up-to-date information on important dates and schedules. When in doubt,
contact us by email or phone.
Divisions / Age Groups
My child has never played before, I am concerned he/she might not
fit in the division.
Our primary concern is safety and there are many children that
only start playing baseball for the first time when they are 11 or 12 years old.
Our evaluations attempt to ensure that the children are placed in the
appropriate skill division and that the teams are then divided equally within
each division by using our draft selection process.
My son/daughter is 15 yrs old, where can he play or register?
15 years olds are not eligible to play in NRLL's Junior division
(ages 13 - 14). The option for 15 year olds is to play with
Regina Midget Baseball (ages 15
- 18).
Fees
When do I pay registration fees?
NRLL accepts payments anytime up to uniform pickup day. Our
preference is to receive payment on Evaluation day, but you can also pay your
registration fees at any time after registering by mailing a cheque or money
order to:
North Regina Little League
#250-918 Albert Street
Regina, Sask.
S4R 2P6
All registration fees must
be paid in full to receive a uniform. Cheques may be post-dated to April 30th.
Evaluations and Drafts
What are evaluations and when are they?
NRLL's baseball evaluations attempt to determine each child's
baseball skills by having the children conduct various infield drills, outfield
drills, batting, and pitching. Each player is scored on individual components
for each drill. Divisions (Senior Rookie and above) then divide the players into
"A" and "AA" categories, from which the coaches will select their players for
each team. The goal is to promote as much skill distribution as possible between teams
in each division, and the evaluation process is how that is achieved.
How is "AA" eligibility determined?
The number of players in a particular division is used to
determine how many "A" and "AA" teams will created for that division. The player's evaluation scores determine whether they are assigned to play in the
"A" or "AA" division. Players can select not to play "AA" baseball if they so
prefer. Coaches then select from the eligible player list for that division to
form their team roster. Not every player who is placed on the "AA" eligibility
list is selected to play on a "AA" team, as coaches may have a list of 84
eligible players to fill 72 positions (ie. if 6 teams in the division).
Each division ("A" and "AA") has a similar number of games during
the regular season, however, "AA" teams may have more practices and tournaments
then "A" teams.
What are drafts?
Coaches for each division (Senior Rookie and above) receive the
evaluation scores for the eligible players in their division. Coaches then draft
(select) players onto the individual teams. The goal is to promote as much skill
parity as possible between teams in each division, so that each team is evenly
matched. Drafts are conducted during the second and third weeks of April, and
coaches then notify the players that they have been selected and when their
first practice is to occur.
Uniform Pickup
When do I get a uniform?
Your coach will meet you at Uniform Pickup for uniform fittings
and distribution. Coaches for each team in each division will be given a specific
date and time for their uniform pickup. Further information will be posted on
the NRLL website. All registration fees must be paid before uniform can be
provided to the player.
Regular Season
How many games per week do you play?
Due to the size of NRLL (approximately 850 players in 2009) and
unpredictable weather, there are no set days or times for any divisions. Depending upon the size of any division, teams will play 14 to 16 games during
the Regular Season (May 1 - June 20), so a team can play on average 2 games per
week. Schedules are provided at the start of the season and are listed on the
NRLL website. Rainout games are rescheduled as quickly as possible, whenever
possible.
From approximately June 20 to the end of school term is the end season
Playoffs. Most divisions use a double-knockout tournament format which provides
each team at least 2 additional games before the end of the season.
How many practices per week?
Practices depend upon the Coaches and parents. Teams are
encouraged to practice at least one per week, depending upon their game
schedule. Some Coaches and parents consider the Regular Season to be
practice for the End Season Playoffs.
When does the season start/end?
NRLL's regular baseball season games start May 1st and end about
the time kids are finishing school - the last week of June.
How long are the games?
Maximum time allotted is as follows:
Junior Rookie - 1hr
Senior Rookie A - 1hr 15min
Senior Rookie AA - 2hr
Minor A/AA - 2hr
Major A/AA - 2hr
Junior - 2hr
What kind of clinics do you hold so my child can get ready for
the season?
Morgan Reiter (Inside Pitch Baseball) holds a baseball camp at
the NRLL diamonds just prior to the start of our regular season. Further
information and registration forms will be available at Evaluations. After the Drafts are completed, teams generally have two weeks to practice prior to the start
of the regular season.
Are there trophies and medals?
Rookie Divisions:
NRLL provides participation medals to all children in Junior Rookie and Senior
Rookie divisions. Championship trophies or medals will be presented to 1st place
teams in the Rookie divisions instead of participation medals.
Minor, Major, and Junior Divisions:
NRLL provides Championship trophies or medals to 1st place teams and Runner-Up
trophies or medals to 2nd place teams in the End Season Playoffs.
Tournaments held throughout the Regular Season may provide
additional opportunity to obtain trophies and medals, however, these tournaments
are at the discretion of the Tournament Director and Commissionaire of the
division.
All Star Season
What is the All Star season?
For those players who are interested in extending their baseball
season North Regina Little League offers an All Star Season for Minor, Major &
Junior divisions starting at the end of June.
Competitive teams are selected from the eligible league players
who try out. Each team will play an exhibition schedule with frequent practice
sessions to prepare for the Saskatchewan Provincial Championship. The winning
Provincial teams advance to the Prairie Championship tournaments and then to the
Canadian Championship tournament. Ultimately, a winning team representing Canada
is invited to the Little League World Series.
If you are interested in trying out for an All Star team your
coach will provide you with more details around the beginning of June. The
sign-up sheets for the All Star tryouts will be located in the Clubhouse at
Kinsmen Park.
Coaching
Where do your Coaches come from?
Our Coaches are parents just like you. If you are
interested in Coaching (either as a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach) or being a
parental helper during practices, NRLL invites you to register to Coach. NRLL is
a volunteer organization and parental coaches stepping forward is critical to
enabling the children to play baseball.
Coaches are selected by the commissioners for each division. Often parents are unsure they have the time to coach a team, and co-coaches are
used wherever possible (so the more coaches who register the better it is for
everyone). Each coach must submit to a police record check.
Clinics are available to improve coaching skills. Its never too
late to offer to help out, and sign up as a coach.
Umpiring
Where do your Umpires come from?
NRLL uses players to umpire lower age divisions. Umpiring clinics
are provided. The umpire in chief sets the umpires schedule. Umpires must be 12
years of age or older.
